Unique Italian Holidays

If you are looking for extraordinary holidays in a still very native spot of Tuscany, why not spend them at the Torre del Merlo?
The tower is beautifully furnished, well maintained and is lovingly looked after and hosted by the owners. It doesn’t hurt to be fit, considering the tower consists of four floors plus the rooftop and no lift, but you will be rewarded by the marvellous view on said rooftop and out of the windows in every room.
The spacious garden presents a relatively new swimming pool, which you may also enjoy in larger groups of four or five.
At our arrival, we were offered local specialities such as vegetables and greens of the tower’s garden. The friendly owners were very helpful and gladly informed us about the environment, the locals, the history of the tower and the activities and happenings in the village of Montecatini. The village is very cute and provides two good restaurants, a bar, a bakery, a source of drinking water, a pharmacy, a bank, a shop for tobacco and magazines as well as a small supermarket.
We ourselves spent two wonderful weeks at this very amazing place!

Unique accommodation in a beautiful landscape

Belforti Tower provides excellent accommodation. It is truly unique and is a great opportunity to re-live a piece of history. Luca, the owner, is generous and welcoming, and always on hand to provide insight into local history and to recommend interesting places to visit. The village itself is friendly, and the local restaurants and bar are very pleasant. This is an area of great natural beauty. There are also very interesting towns and villages to visit within a short distance. It is excellent for cycling, or simply relaxing in the warmth of the Tuscan sunshine and the pace of life in Montecatini.

Extraordinary Experience

This is a very unique accommodation. It is in a very, very small town (the 4 of us referred to ourselves as “the tourists”), but so quaint, and so convenient for day trips to the sea, to Volterra, or to Lucca, and most any place in Tuscany is within a 90 minute drive. The super-historic building has been masterfully re-designed in style.

The Tower is correctly advertised as a 2 bedroom / 2 bath accommodation, but there is another double bed on the living room floor, separated by a room divider, and another small bathroom on that level, which, in the right circumstances allows for up to 6 guests. All of the beds are on separate levels, with the kitchen on its own level, so there is plenty of privacy as well. The rooftop offers its own unique ambience!

Luca was so helpful in getting us acclimated to the area and its history and made us feel welcome, for sure. We spent 5 nights here, and it was terrific. Even though it was the off season, we found plenty to do, but you definitely need a car with an experienced driver, because climbing the hill to the tower in a modern car on a medieval road is not for amateurs. We were entirely comfortable, and anything we asked for was supplied immediately. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and one of the most memorable stays in decades.

Spectacular setting and Luca is charming, friendly, and approachable

My wife and I enjoyed wonderful hospitality on our trip to Italy and to Montecatini val de Cecina in March 2013. The Tower is beautiful and exceeded our expectations in finishes and amenities – everything was top notch quality and nothing is forgotten. We very much enjoyed our time there and in the very small village. The current owner/operator, Luca, took an hour with us on Saturday morning or our week in the area to wander the streets, show us the sights, and provide some of the history of this lovely area. Luca is a journalist which explained his thorough and informative website. A little off the beaten path, but very much worth the effort.

Thank you again, Luca, for your hospitality and friendship, we are ever grateful.

The Belforti Tower is a beautiful place to stay, it feels like being in one’s own fairy tale. The tower is surrounded by olive and fruit trees and sits in the midst of a charming village. The owner is extremely kind and useful, he went above and beyond in making sure we enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place as a wonderfully relaxing vacation and also a great way to have a more authentic experience in Italy.

Back to the 14th century

The Torre di Belforti is a very unique and special holiday rental in a less traveled, quiet and beautiful part of Tuscany. The Belforti Tower stands high over an authentic medieval castle complex where real people live a very simple Tuscan lifestyle. You will be transported back to the 14th century and experience of living like a feudal ruler high up in the tower protecting the people below, yet still so much a part of this ancient community. The tower is perfectly restored to original design, very quiet, clean and beautiful. The kitchen and bedrooms are large and private. Each level of the tower is separated by ancient stairways. The bathrooms are lined in a soft dark luxurious stone, and the kitchen is fit with a working fireplace. There is a lookout on the roof for watching the clear Tuscan sky with a spectacular view of the surrounding ‘kingdom’ below. A pleasant olive grove surrounds the tower where you can rest and have quiet conversation. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The people of Montecatini are very welcoming! The piazza restaurant has exceptional Tuscan cuisine where you can sit and converse the night away! The cafe/bar is an easy going place to chat with new friends. We could have stayed here a month making new friends and resting up from sightseeing Italy!! A great stay for writers and dreamers where time is yours forever! The best part of all is Luca, the owner. He is the most graceous and generous person. He will delight your soul. To know Luca is to find the true meaning and spirit of Italy. Come and meet him, and you will know what I mean. Rose Marie Wallbridge,USA
